Subject: School Closure Update for Thursday and Friday, October 3 & 4 Anderson 4 Family, We hope you are staying safe during these challenging conditions. Due to ongoing power outages and roads that remain impassable for our buses, we have made the difficult decision to cancel school on Thursday, October 3, and Friday, October 4. There will be no eLearning on these days, as more than half of our families and staff are still without power. In addition, please note that Monday, October 7 is a scheduled holiday, and school will remain closed. Tuesday, October 8 is a professional development day for our teachers, so there will be no classes for students on that day as well. The following schools will remain accessible from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM, and complimentary food will be provided from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM. We encourage community members who need a secure environment and access to charging stations for their devices to visit. Please be advised that the buildings will have power, HVAC systems, and free public Wi-Fi available for use. Pendleton High LaFrance Elementary Townville Elementary Pendleton Elementary Mount Lebanon Elementary The safety of our students, staff, and families is our top priority, and given the current circumstances, it is not safe to hold classes. We are continuing to monitor the situation closely and will provide further updates as needed. Thank you for your patience and understanding as we navigate these challenges together. Please continue to follow our social media and websites for information on school closures and updates.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), in coordination with the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), will conduct a nationwide test of the Emergency Alert System (EAS) and Wireless Emergency Alerts (WEA) TOMORROW! The national test will consist of two portions, testing WEA and EAS capabilities. Both tests are scheduled to begin at approximately 2:20pm ET on Wednesday, October 4. The WEA portion of the test will be directed to ALL consumer cell phones. The test message will display in either English or in Spanish, depending on the language settings of the wireless handset. The EAS portion of the test will be sent to radios and televisions. *** PLEASE NOTE *** Experts advise people at risk for domestic violence who keep a hidden safety phone at home to switch that phone OFF during FEMA's October 4, 2023, nationwide test of the National Emergency Alert system so the phone's existence is not inadvertently revealed to an abuser. It was a GREAT first day! That's because of our awesome team of parents, PES staff, and students. I appreciate you. Remember, tomorrow, all kids can be walked to the front door if you'd like. Staggered start k4/k5 students can be walked to class. Don't forget to watch our orientation video. Thanks! - Mr. Simpson

Today is Administrative Professionals Day and we have the BEST! Their work often goes unnoticed because it is behind the scenes. They both have such a big impact on teachers, students, and parents. They never want any credit for their hard work but today we want to say THANK YOU! We appreciate and love you both.
